Natural Skin Care
The old saying, “You are what you eat” is true. What you consume into your body will show in your skin.
Diet. A healthy diet is always the best remedy for natural skincare. You want to eat organic whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables. These add live enzymes to your body that will make your eyes and hair shine bright and your skin glow from inner radiance.
Omega 3′s are important for skin health. Natural sources are fish, especially sardines.
Water. Lots of water is also necessary for hydration and washing out the toxins from your body. Our bodies are 98% water and our skin is the largest organ. If you don’t hydrate your skin from the inside, it will result in dehydrated looking skin with more wrinkles.
Other home remedies for natural skin care include:
Olive oil or coconut oil. I know, you’d think if you put oil on your skin you’ll end up all greasy. But your skin will love being slathered in olive or coconut oil right after a shower and on your face in the evenings before bedtime. Use oils instead of commercial lotion. Many say the secret to Sophia Loren’s beauty is the olive oil she used daily. It’s great to use on your face, hair and body. Olive oil is high in anti oxidants and vitamin E.
Exfoliation. It’s important to exfoliate your skin on a regular basis to release toxins, increase circulation and release ingrown hairs and dead skin. Dry brushing your body with a natural bristle brush is very good for lymphatic drainage. Use long strokes toward your heart on dry skin only. On your stomach you can make circular motions. Your face also needs to be exfoliated too in a more gentle way.
A homemade oatmeal or brown sugar scrub mixed with honey is very good for facial exfoliation. It’s simple to make. Add enough honey to make a paste and smooth in circular motions on your face.
A salt scrub is good for your body. Mix 3 cups fine sea salt, 3/4 cup olive oil, and you can add a little essential oils for a nice smell. Keep this in a glass jar and shake before every use. Salt is good for unclogging the pores.
Age Spots. Age spots occur with women going through hormonal changes. Although they are annoying, they are not dangerous. Some natural ways to lighten them are: Smooth castor oil or aloe vera juice (from the plant) on the spots. Over about a month’s time they will fade away. You can use lemon juice or apple cider vinegar on them too, but be careful not to get it on your other skin. These are acidic and can irritate the surrounding skin.
Sunscreen. Keep your face protected from the sun, but it’s also important to have at least 15 minutes of unprotected sun exposure to absorb vitamin D from the sun.
