Iodine: A Natural Remedy
I was given an iodine loading test from a natural health practitioner when I went to her for help with my thyroid. The test showed that I was extremely deficient in iodine. This surprised me because I love salt and use quite a bit of it. She prescribed a bottle of nascent iodine that I take in the morning on an empty stomach. I was eager to try this since I prefer natural remedies over prescriptions any day. What I initially liked about the iodine is the energy it gave me. After what seemed a couple years of a foggy, lethargic brain it felt as if a veil lifted! Wow! And it came on about 30 minutes after I took the iodine for the first time. Since taking it regularly, I have regained a mental clarity that I’ve been missing for quite a while. Also, my extremely bad allergy to animals is gone. Gone! I couldn’t believe it! I have since adopted a dog into our home for my son and I have no problems at all. Also, I was getting cysts near my lymph nodes under my ears and they are gone as well. No more trips to the dermatologist to have them cut out.
There are various ways to include iodine in your diet. Kelp, seaweed, Iodoral, and nascent iodine to name a few. I had tried kelp and seaweed in the past as a natural herbal remedies, but it didn’t seem to do the job quite as effectively as the nascent iodine.
Since then, I have researched iodine and found it is one of those essential natural health remedies almost everyone needs, but many people are deficient in. Other halogens that are in our environment displace the iodine. Bromide in breads and pastries, chlorine and fluoride all displace the iodine.
The commonly accepted medical view is that iodine is only needed by the thyroid. This is very important, but further research has proven that all organs in the body utilize iodine. Other possible ways the body uses iodine is to help regulate moods, help regulate blood pressure, in preventing cancer of the uterus, ovaries, breast, prostrate and thyroid, and in treating and preventing fibrocystic breasts.
Dr. David Brownstein wrote a book called, “ Iodine: Why You Need It; Why You Can’t Live Without It”. If you think you may need iodine, I highly recommend reading this book.
