Homeopathic Uses Of Arnica

Arnica is an herbal plant which grows in Northern America, Canada, Europe, and Siberia.  It has egg-shaped leaves and bright yellow daisy-like flowers.  This plant is a member of the sunflower family and is another example of natural herbal plants that nature has provided for healing and pain relief.  It has been used as an antibiotic for centuries and was used by the Native Americans for its pain relieving capacities.  When prepared from the actual plant it contains natural nutrients beneficial for pain relief.

It is available in health food stores and comes as an ointment, oil and as a cream that are used for external uses only.  Internal uses are available but are not recommended as it is a dangerous poison and should never be taken internally.

It is an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and a pain reliever homeopathic plant.  It has been known to be used to minimize the effects of tissue trauma.  It can also be used on bruises and on swelling to reduce the healing time.  It is used for joint and rheumatic pains related to arthritis and to ease tired, sore, overworked muscles.  Chronic back or neck pains can be relieved with the arnica cream.  It can also be used to ease neck, shoulder and headache pain.

It has been found that if arnica cream is applied to athletes skin before an athletic event, the pain and stiffness is reduced.  Athletes experience less of these pains after the event.

This herb is to be used as a cream and should never be applied to a break or an open wound.  Application of the cream have been found okay to do 2 – 3 times a day but warnings on its use indicate that it should never be used for more than two weeks at a time and should be discontinued immediately if skin irritations like redness, itching or blisters appear.
