Home Remedies for Acne

Ball-and-stick model of the hydrogen peroxide ...

Acne can be very embarrassing. It didn’t plague me too much as a teenager, but as I go through perimenopause I have some occassional breakouts.   Some of the drug store products on the market are hard on the skin and really don’t work anyway.  After many trials and tribulations, I finally found an acne remedy  that worked for me.  My husband has back acne and it has helped him too.  Chances are you have it in your medicine cabinet and use it to prevent infections. I have found hydrogen peroxide to work wonders on my breakouts. Regular 2 % Hydogen Peroxide in the brown container.   I only use it at night only on the acne, or it can be too drying.  After the hydrogen peroxide dries, I slather cocont oil on my skin as a moisturizer, and my skin has never looked better.

I prefer to use natural remedies for acne instead of putting chemicals on my skin.  Besides the peroxide, I have used apple cider vinegar, but I couldn’t get past the smell on my skin all night.  It worked pretty good though.  The vinegar has similar antiseptic properties as the peroxide.  They both kill the bacteria on the skin that causes acne.    Other home remedies for acne are witch hazel and aloe vera gel.  You can buy aloe vera gel in the drug store or open up a leaf from a plant.

Internally, a good clean diet helps as does 2 tablespoons of organic virgin coconut oil.  There’s more information on organic virgin coconut oil here on the site.  It’s great taken both internally and externally for the skin.  Of all the products I’ve tried for acne and believe me I’ve tried everything, my favorite acne home remedy is the combination Hydrogen Peroxide and coconut oil.
