Constipation can be very unpleasant and uncomfortable.  When you are pushing and grunting to go number two, then you know you have a problem.  Prescription drugs and certain illnesses are some reasons people get constipated, but usually it’s because of a poor diet lacking in fiber.  Adults need between 20-35 grams of fiber daily for optimum bowel health.  A great diet is the best of the natural remedies for constipation available.  In lieu of that, there are some emergency tactics that will help get things moving along.  What follows are some tried and true home remedies for constipation that do the job!

Black Strap Molasses

Your grandma didn’t keep this dark syrup around the house because it tastes great!   1 1/2 tablespoons of Molasses mixed with some warm or cold milk,  does a great job in relieving constipation rather quickly.  Black strap molasses is a mineral rich syrup that supplies your body with much needed calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, copper and manganese.  It is high in calories, but a little each day is a rich food source of minerals.  People say molasses cures many ailments…probably because a lack of minerals will cause many ills!

Sea Salt Cleanse
Upon rising, drink 1 tablespoon of sea salt in a quart of water.  This will give you a nice quick cleanse in a relatively short amount of time.

Grains

Whole grains add bulk to your digestive track and will sweep it clean.  Aim for 6-7 ounces of whole grain bread, rice, or oatmeal a day.  Look for bread with the highest fiber content.

Psyllium Husks

Be sure to drink plenty of water with psyllium.  This creates increased volume in the colon and natural contractions that will push the food through.

Castor Oil
A tablespoon before bedtime will bring relief in the morning.
Apple Cider Vinegar
One tablespoon diluted with water in the morning will keep you bowel movements regular.

Coffee

Coffee stimulates the digestive system.  For added benefits, add a little black strap molasses to your coffee.

These remedies for constipation should give you some relief.  The best home remedy for constipation is a good diet rich in fruits, vegetables and grains.
