Cold Remedies

Everyone dreads the common cold.  Usually, your not sick enough to stay home, but you also feel terrible throughout the day.  Usually it lasts 7 to 14 days.    The best of the common cold remedies is prevention.   Keep your hands washed, use the netti pot daily, maybe twice daily during the cold and flu season and be sure your getting enough vitamin C.  All of these suggestions are also great allergy remedies too.  In other words, try and avoid it completely.  But once you think you may have it, there are some things you can do.  The key is to act fast.

Hydrogen Peroxide.  A cold remedy that works for me is to put 6 to 7 drops (fill your ear canal)  of  3% hydrogen peroxide in your ear.  Lie still and if you feel a fizzing that is good -a sign it is working.  Lie there until the fizzing stops then do the other ear.   Now be sure the hydrogen peroxide is at least room temperature.  A good idea is to warm the bottle in some warm water for a little while, otherwise it may make you dizzy.  This works because the rhinovirus which causes the cold enters the ear through the ear canal.  The hydrogen peroxide kills the virus before it enters your body.  Do it at the very first sign of a cold.  I do it even if I come in contact with someone with a cold.  At the very least, it will clean your ears of wax build up.

Tomato Tea.  This is also one of the best natural cold remedies that I found on the internet that has worked for me after I have caught the cold and has even worked to clear up allergies.  Here is the recipe:
2 cups V8 Juice or tomato juice
2-3 cloves Garlic crushed (more if you can)
2 T Lemon Juice
Hot Sauce (the more the better)

Mix and heat in a pan.   I like to avoid the microwave since it kills all nutrients from food.  Sip slowly  and try and let the fumes circulate through you sinuses and lungs.  Drink as often as needed.

Other head cold remedies and cold and flu remedies are:

Garlic – 3-4 garlic gel capsules or blend 3-4 cloves of garlic with some orange juice and drink twice a day,

Cayene Pepper – take 2-3 cayenne pepper capsules daily.
