Acai Berry Juice – Superfood or Hype?

Acai berry juice is derived from the acai palm tree.  It grows in the rain forest of Brazil and Peru.  It has been consumed locally for years, but only recently gained popularity in the Western world.

After being called a superfood by Oprah, American marketer’s jumped on board and promoted acai as the next big thing.  Suddenly, there were claims that it could do everything from cure cancer to prevent heart disease.  The most common claim of these marketers was that acai juice can help you effortlessly loose massive amounts of weight.

Unfortunately, there is little evidence that supports this claim.  While the high level of antioxidants found in acai may help to stimulate your metabolism, it isn’t a miracle supplement that is going to cause you to loose 25 pounds in a monthly easily!  Unfortunately, nothing can do that!

So does this mean that taking acai is a waste of time?  Not at all!  The real benefit comes from the antioxidants ability to help fight free radicals in your body.  Free radicals can come from internal or external sources.  When there is an abundance of them in your body, cell damage occurs.  By taking a supplement like acai berry juice, you improve your body’s ability to fight off cell damage.  It is believed that this can improve heart health, slow aging, prevent blood clots and even slow cancer growth.

While it may not lead to quick weight loss, acai berry juice is certainly a supplement worth considering.
